- Daal-Bhat-Tarkari
It can be taken as the national dish of the country as it is taken throughout the country twice a day (One as brunch and other as dinner). Daal is the lentil soup with some spices, Bhat is plain rice and Tarkari can be any stir-fried vegetables. Achar (Pickle) used as a condiment can be fresh or fermented is spicy and flavorful in taste. It is local food which is very easy to be found in every household.
- Newari Samayabajhi
With the wide use of buffalo meat, Newari Samay baji is the dish which indeed is very rich in flavors and spices. Samay baji has a combination of various dishes such as Beaten rice, Bamboo shoot soup, spinach, Radish pickle, potatoes, meat items like Hakku Choila, Kachi Laa, Sekuwa, Bhutan, and Phokso. It is very delicious and must try when visiting Nepal. Other Newari dishes like Yomari, Chata Mari, Bara can be added as well.
- Thakali Khana Set
Normally, it is also a set of Daal-Bhat but comes with many stir-fried vegetables, meat items, and pickles. Stir-fried vegetables like Spinach, Fried Potato and lady’s finger, Egg Plant with meat varieties of Chicken curry, Mutton curry, Buff fried, or curry. You will get to have 2 to 3 varieties of Pickle that can be of Radish (Mula), Dried spinach (Gundruk), Tomato with spice, and tasty flavors. Instead of Plain rice, you will have an option to choose Dhido, a dough traditionally made up of millet or buckwheat. The special service of Thakali Khana set is, it pours hot and delicious Ghee on top of the rice in front of the guest.
- Chicken and Pork Sekuwa
When a Chicken item or Pork is roasted in a Natural Firewood along with the Spices and Herbs then it can be called Sekuwa, which can be known as Barbecue also. Meat item is seasoned with necessary herbs and spices while it is raw, put in stick with other items like onions, garlic, tomatoes, etc as you prefer and roast it. It is very popular in Nepal, especially in the Capital city Kathmandu, and Dharan.
- Momo
Dumplings or we say momos can be taken as a staple food of Nepal. Almost every person in every household is in love with momos. It is a small dough stuffed with meat items such as buff, chicken, pork or even with vegetables only, that come with a condiment like a tomato or peanut pickles. Stuffed items are usually mixed with various herbs and spices to give it an aromatic taste. Pickles are made spicy or not as per the taste of the person having it.
