Kathmandu Valley being the heart of Nepal is always an energetic and busy city. The city is usually the first point where tourists from all around the world get to spend the first couple of days when they are on their tour. Even if you live in Nepal or if you are a foreigner, there are still many amazing things to experience with tons of choices.
If you are outside of the valley or a foreigner you might be amazed at the number of people living in this small crowded city. Transports are slow, roads can get dusty in summer and muddy in monsoon ( best to carry a face mask).
Let’s talk about some fun things to do in Kathmandu valley:
- A panoramic view from Swayambhunath
This century-old ancient temple is often considered “Monkey Temple” by the local citizens of the valley. Once you arrive at the bottom of the temple, you will notice 300 plus stone steps leading you to the main temple itself. It’s quite a journey if you are not a fitness person. But once you reach the top you will be embraced by the best panorama view of the entire valley.
- Historic Bhaktapur
The world heritage site of Bhaktapur claimed by UNESCO itself is one of the best and historical places to be around Kathmandu. Not within the valley but just an hour drive at the edge of Kathmandu. Once you make it through all the raging traffic, you will be amazed by how the historical arts, culture, and structures are preserved. Dive into the deep rooting historical culture as you explore Nyatapol Temple, Taumadhi Square, the famous 55 Windows Palace. It won’t take long as you stroll around the ancient city on foot.
- Stroll sound Pashupatinath
Pashupatinath Temple located at the city itself has its own faith and myths among the Hindus all over the world. Millions of worshipers travel across the country to gather here during the Maja Shivaratri. To go inside the huge temple itself it’s quite cheaper for locals than the fare charged to foreigners. One of the important things to keep in mind if you are not native to the valley while exploring this sacred ground you should always be respectful.
- Boudhanath Stupa
Counted amongst one of the biggest stupas in the country. If you are interested in religious history, this is the best place for you to be. Once you have arrived in the stupa, you will already start feeling the change in the feeling of the environment. Peaceful and relaxing environment rather than the environment just outside its gates. Exploring around this old trade route with Tibet, you will notice a small cafe and restaurants around the stupa, where the rooftop restaurants give you a stunning view of the stupa itself.
- Try the Famous MOMOs
Momo considered as the Nepalese favorite food is totally inexpensive and delicious to fill your hunger with. Found at every corner of the valley, this delicious looking dumpling was derived from Tibet, but it was the Newar community who made this dish famous all over Nepal.
