5 Newari food you most try other than Dal Bhat and Momo

Being a Nepali, we all have lived to the typical Nepali food Dal Bhat and Momo. Many consider this food as the only cuisine in Nepal, but when you go through detail about Nepalese dishes you will discover lots of variety and versatility.

Nepal is a multicultural and multiethnic country. Each of these communities has its own food culture which is yet to be explored. Among many communities, the Newar community has the most unique cuisine. It has more than 200 dishes. To mention all of the items is not possible. Among them, you most taste these five Newari food if you consider yourself a foodie.

It is the most famous meal of Newari people. You can have Khaja set as a lunch, snack, or dinner. It comes with a variety of vegetables, spicy cooked meat of buffalo/ duck, spicy potato, beans, and some fried peanut-cashew nut which is served with Chiura (beaten paddy).

It is one of the yummiest Newari dishes. You might also call it Newari hot chocolate due to its sweet taste. It is made in a peculiar fish shape, mostly prepared in the mountainous region to kill cold. It is filled with sweets like chaku and khuwa in rice flour and steamed. Sometimes Yomari also contains finely spiced lentil inside the steamed rice dough cover. It is best served with roti, veggies, and pickles.

Choila

Choila is a hot, spicy, and mouth-watering delicacy of Newari people, traditionally made with the meat of water buffalo. You can also find the duck or a chicken meat version. It is savored with chiura  (rice flakes).

Chatamari, also known as Nepali pizza, is a must-try delicacy. Many ingredients such as egg, minced meat, and seasonal vegetables are topped in rice baked on the frying pan without flipping it in the pan, unlike other bread.

Samay Baji

Samay bhaji is served in a family get-together and an auspicious occasion as a starter from many generations. It is the plate of melanges like beaten rice, fried boiled egg, barbecued buffalo meat, black soybeans, spiced beans, spicy potato pickle, and green leafy vegetables, which is served with Newari drink called“Aila.
